Every day, I find myself shaking my head at the self centered behavior of some people.
1. Some people are so addicted to their little white sticks of tobacco they forget there are other people who find smoking very objectionable. There are a number of bus stops along the way to and from work where the driver takes a momentary break when we are ahead of schedule. Inveritably, someone will stand right outside the doorway to smoke their menthol flavored cigarette. The smoke is pulled through the bus and out the windows on the opposite end. Perhaps I should be louder in my objection the next time.
2. The second time it happened I had to ask the woman to put away her bottle. She had some time on her hands and decided to do something with them, that is, put on a fresh coat of nail polish. For someone who's been in cancer research for more than ten years, my nose is quick to discern what is bad for my little brain. The smell was so loud I had a headache for most of the rest of the day.
3. Lately, you hear it just about every day, the one-sided conversation at an elevated (loud) tone. Someone should do a study on why people feel they need to carry on their private life for all to hear, whether we want to or not. The tiny, hinged communication box we put to our head appears to zone us out from the rest of the world while someone at the other end dictates those few moments of our life. When a telephone rings, you have less than 1 and a half seconds before the person at the other end begins to become irritated. Most cell phones I've seen have an 'Off' button or a way to let you know someone is calling with a vibration. Use it!
